Benefits of Chipboard

Cost-effectiveness

Chipboard is cheaper than solid wood and plywood, making it perfect for large-scale or budget-friendly projects.

Sustainability

As this is made from eco-friendly materials, the use of recycled wood particles reduces the need for fresh timber.

Durability and strength

Its impressive strength and durability make it perfect for structural applications, and it can resist daily wear and tear.

Versatility

Chipboard can be easily cut, shaped, and finished for various projects and is available in various types of size and thickness.

Moisture resistance

Specially treated chipboard can be used in environments with high levels of moisture content without deteriorating.

Common Uses of Chipboard

Ceiling and Floors: Thin chipboard can be used in enclosing the ceiling space in commercial office buildings, multi-story apartments, and private residences. A purpose-built version of this versatile material can also function as a flooring material.

Packaging Material: One of the most common uses of chipboard is in packaging. It is used to make boxes, cartons, and packaging inserts for a wide range of products, including consumer goods, electronics, cosmetics, and food items.

Printed Material: Chipboard is used to produce printed materials such as book covers, folders, and binders. It provides a sturdy and durable surface for printing and protects the contents inside.

Scrapbooking and Craft Projects: Crafters and scrapbook enthusiasts often use chipboard sheets and shapes in their projects. Chipboard adds thickness and dimension to handmade cards, scrapbook pages, and other craft items.

Backings for Notepads and Notebooks: Chipboard is commonly used as the backing material for notepads, notebooks, and memo pads. It provides rigidity and support to the writing surface, making it easier to write on.

Game Boards and Puzzles: Chipboard is used to create game boards for board games and puzzles. It is an ideal material due to its flat, smooth surface and durability.

Prototyping and Model Making: In product design and prototyping, chipboardis sometimes used to create preliminary models and mock-ups of products and packaging.

Furniture and Cabinetry: In furniture manufacturing, chipboard is used to create the structural components of items like shelves, cabinet carcasses, and the back panels of furniture pieces.

Partitions and Dividers: Chipboard is used to create dividers and partitions in packaging, boxes, and drawers. It helps organize and separate items within a container or storage space.

Education Materials: Educational materials like flashcards, learning aids, and study guides often use chipboard as a backing material to make them more durable and easier to handle.

Framing Backing: Chipboard can be used as backing material for framed artwork, photographs, and posters. It provides support and prevents the contents from bending or warping within the frame.

Production Process

Collecting and Preparing Raw Materials
Sawmills and woodworking industries supply wood chips, sawdust, and recycled wood particles. The materials go through a screening process to remove dirt and metal contaminants.

Drying the Wood Particles
Rotary dryers reduce the moisture content to 5-7%, ensuring better bonding in later stages.

Mixing with Resin and Adhesives
They coat dried wood particles with a binding agent, typically urea-formaldehyde resin. The resin acts as a glue, allowing the particles to bond effectively.

Forming the Chipboard Panel
A machine spreads resin-coated wood chips into layers, ensuring a uniform structure.

HOLLOW CORE CHIPBOARD

Pressing Under Heat and High Pressure
A hydraulic hot press applies high temperature (150-200°C) and pressure to bond the layers.

Cooling and Cutting
The pressed panels cool down to stabilize their structure. Cutting machines trim the boards into standard or custom sizes.

Sanding and Surface Finishing
Chipboard panels go through sanding machines for a smooth and even surface. Some undergo lamination with melamine or veneer for extra durability.

Quality Control and Distribution
Our quality inspection team ensures that the strength, density and moisture resistance meet industry standards during the production process. Once qualified, the final particleboard is packaged and shipped for customer use.

Tips for Using Chipboard

Cut with Care

Use a sharp craft knife or a heavy-duty paper cutter for clean edges.

Seal for Longevity

If your project will be handled often, consider sealing it with a clear coat or laminate.

Layer for Strength

For extra sturdy projects, layer multiple sheets of chipboard together.

Q: What is the thickest chipboard?

A: If we're talking about chipboard for book making and crafting (rather than chip board/particle board for construction and furniture) then the thickest board we typically make is a 130 or a 140 point, depending on availability.
