Characteristics Of Blockboard

Dec 18, 2024

Blockboard (commonly known as core board) is a plywood with a solid wood core, which has the following characteristics:

Physical properties: Blockboard has high transverse bending and compressive strength, while its vertical bending and compressive strength is relatively weak. Its moisture content is controlled between 10% and 13%, and it has a hard texture and good sound absorption and thermal insulation properties.

Processing performance: Blockboard does not require high processing equipment and is suitable for on-site construction. It is easy to process and has a wide range of uses. It can be used to make furniture, doors and windows, and covers, partitions, false walls, heating covers, curtain boxes, etc.

Environmental performance: The use of a large amount of urea-formaldehyde glue in the production process may lead to a high release of formaldehyde and relatively poor environmental performance. In addition, there is a phenomenon of cutting corners in the market, resulting in more cavities inside the board, which affects the nail holding force.

Applicable scenarios: Due to its strong stability and non-deformation, blockboard is widely used in furniture manufacturing, doors and windows, and covers, partitions, false walls and other fields. However, due to its fear of moisture, it is not recommended to use it in humid environments such as kitchens and bathrooms.

‌Processing technology‌: The processing technology of blockboard is divided into two types: machine splicing and hand splicing. Machine-spliced boards are squeezed by machines, with extremely small gaps, smooth splicing, uniform load-bearing capacity, and are not easy to deform after long-term use; hand-spliced boards are manually inlaid with wooden strips, with poor load-bearing capacity, and are suitable for some decoration projects.

‌Material selection‌: The inner core of blockboard is made of various materials, including fir, poplar, birch, pine, paulownia, etc. Among them, fir, poplar, and birch are favored because of their dense texture and strong nail holding power, while paulownia is soft and easy to crack and deform after long-term use.

Blockboard occupies an important position in decoration and furniture making due to its excellent physical properties and wide application scenarios, but when choosing, you need to pay attention to its environmental protection performance and processing technology to ensure safety and effect.
